fruit art

Continuing on the topic of weird and different art, this weeks focus will be on Fruit Art.
These are some of the better sculptures i found on Google Images.
It is just amazing how plain old watermelons can be made to look this good.

The craft itself must take hours of precise work.

Here is a good YouTube video for your enjoyment:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqLN70hciQw&feature=related This is just one of many awesomely good videos of fruit art, so have a look for yourself.
Now, for a more practical use of fruit art: square watermelons.
For years in Japan the people had a problem: watermelons tasted good but were to large to fit in refrigerators, and rolled around in markets and shops. the people lived with it, until a bright Japanese farmer came up with the square watermelon idea.
They are grown in plastic boxes like this one:
The watermelons are placed inside when they are tiny then grow to fill out the box.
I think this is a clever useful use of fruit art and more ideas like it should be thought of!

street art

Here are some pictures of street art i found online.
There are lots more exciting and wonderful pictures i haven't posted so try searching street art in google images.
Some other really interesting "sculptures" found online are called inflatable bag arts.To find a good video on YouTube click the link belowhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PH6xCT2aTSoThese are some of the better ones on google images:

The man who makes them is called Joshua Allen Harris and he started back in 2008.
The bags sit on the vents and look like junk, until a subway train goes underneath and air blows up the vent the monster is taped onto. when the air comes up the vent the monster inflates and everyone can see it for what it really is.
All the monster are made out of garbage bags and tape.

More amazing art next week!
